Communications Intern’s Xmas Salutations
Kirjoittanut Jussi Meriläinen
As the last blog post of 2022, Innovation Centre’s communications intern reflects on past months and the vibe of innovation work.
Salutations, dear reader! I’ll immediately cease using third person and here on write from my personal perspective. As end of the year looms near, it’s a tradition to look back at past year, and coincidentally I got to reflect on my experiences at Innovation Centre so far.
As I started in October i was a blank slate: my experience in business was harshly limited, and I wasn’t familiar with academic research either. It was really exciting to blend into this group of experts working in the Innovation Centre.
So far I’ve learned that our team works in the burning point of university and business life. It’s everyday life to discuss about funding applications, university politics and latest moves of corporations.
And still the actual work is mostly about meeting people. Sparse are the days without meetings, visits of researchers and students, or co-workers rushing to catch an appointment. Many times I’ve been invited into happenings, even with a moments notice.
As a communication specialist I’ve gotten into hard core of the field: writing about content that is not my direct field of knowledge. I get to hear and write about amazing projects, which I wouldn’t have bumped into anywhere else!
As my joy I have noticed that me and my expertiece are appreciated. It has been great to strengthen the comm team and I’ve gotten to try many of my ideas in action.
So, it really isn’t a miracle that these people have found themselves in the Avengers of scientific business. In all my co-workers crystallize expertise and genuine desire to work for others, with their unique twists of course. I don’t intend to paint any unbroken idyll here: everybody has their own mind, and sometimes the coffee table conversations are heated.
As a christmas gift for all the fellows in the Innovation Centre I want to give courage and communicate the great work you do. I also give my seasons greetings to university researchers, students, faculty, startups, stakeholders and especially ladies of Humus Café. :)
